Research suggests ketamine can help with symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder and social anxiety. A 2017 open-label study1 evaluated the effect of ketamine on 12 patients with refractory generalized anxiety disorder and/or social anxiety disorder and found that a single dose relieved anxiety within one hour of treatment and lasted up to seven days.
Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy may also help patients with a terminal illness. A 2007 open-label study2 showed efficacy in using ketamine-enhanced therapy to treat terminally ill patients to enable a “death rehearsal” and reduce end-of-life anxiety.
